The setup
Rockstar's summary is short. Jason and Lucia have never had the odds on their side. Then a job that should have been simple falls apart, and the two get pulled into a criminal conspiracy that reaches across the whole state. The only way out is to trust each other.
That last part matters for how you will play. Rockstar presents the two as partners, so expect a story about trust between them as much as about the crimes.
Lucia Caminos
Lucia is fresh out of prison when the story starts. Rockstar's bio says her father taught her to fight from an early age, and that fighting for her family is what landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary. She comes out with a plan to finally get ahead.
Jason Duval
When we meet Jason, he is living in the Keys and taking work from small-time drug smugglers. It is the kind of life he knows from childhood, when the adults around him were mostly hustlers. A spell in the Army was meant to be his way out, and it didn't stick. You can read a lot into his ride, too: a beaten-up Vapid Ganado pickup that sits low to the ground, which the Ultimate Edition lets you rebuild in retro style.
Their gear in the Ultimate Edition
The Ultimate Edition leans into the pair idea. It includes matching his-and-hers revolvers for the two leads, the Hawk & Little Morgan, with Vice City styling, palm-tree grips and a scope. Lucia also gets a personalised version of her Klose K17 pistol, engraved with roses and her signature. None of this changes the story, but it shows how Rockstar sees the two: a team, each with a personal touch.
Brian Heder
Brian is the reason Jason has a roof over his head. Jason stays in a place Brian owns without paying rent, and in return he leans on people for Brian around town. Brian and his wife, Lori, run a boat yard in the Keys, and the boats are not only for fishing: he has been smuggling since the region's heyday and is still in business. He is one of the supporting characters Rockstar has described in the most detail so far.
The wider cast
Rockstar has also introduced a group of characters tied to different corners of Leonida, from street crime to music and online fame:

- Real Dimez
- Cal Hampton
- Raul Bautista, a veteran robber who, in the Extended Look, brings Jason and Lucia in on bigger jobs
Rockstar's character pages give each of them a short profile. We will add more detail here as their roles become clear in the game, without spoiling the plot.
What is not confirmed
- How switching works. Rockstar has not explained exactly how and when you switch between Jason and Lucia.
- How the story ends, or which characters stay on your side. We will not report story leaks.
- Voice cast details beyond what Rockstar and the actors have shared publicly.
What this means for you
- You play as both leads: Lucia, who learned to fight young, and Jason, an ex-soldier who knows the Keys.
- Brian Heder and the Keys are likely to be an early part of Jason's side of the story.
- To avoid spoilers after November 19, stick to sources that mark spoilers clearly. ViceGuide's answers don't spoil the story past the point you've reached.
